Telematic Explorations with Scott Deal

IUPUI Music Professor Scott Deal performs a set of original music and media works created for telematic performance. Telematic art synthesizes media such as live music, dance, drama, and visual arts with Internet-based interactive processes and performance content.

Performing with him online from the Donald Tavel Arts Technology Research Lab at IUPUI will be his electro-acoustic ensemble, Big Robot, a group that interweaves live players with computer and media interactivity.

Big Robot stands among the early groups to embrace the Internet as a platform for performance in this newly emerged medium. Big Robot performs in live venues, and also in the Telematic Studio at the Donald Tavel Arts Technology Research Center at Indiana University. The core group comprises percussionists Scott Deal and Jordan Munson, as well as composer Michael Drews. Each of the musicians perform on computers as well as acoustic instruments.
